These original drawings focus on the character, expression and presence of the animal, from familiar British wildlife to much-loved birds. Every original is created by hand in Surrey and offers the chance to own the artwork at the heart of the Art by Jay collection.

A print reproduces the finished image. An original holds everything that went into creating it — the layers of pencil, tiny marks, texture and decisions made along the way.

There is only one original of each drawing. Once it finds a home, that piece is gone.

Each artwork is built in layers of coloured pencil, gradually developing the depth, texture and expression of the animal.

The aim is not simply to reproduce wildlife accurately, but to capture the character and presence that made Jay want to draw the subject in the first place.
