Hares have a distinctive balance of alertness and stillness. With Nutbrown Soft, I wanted to capture that poised moment before movement, building the original coloured-pencil drawing layer by layer to bring softness to the fur, detail to the whiskers and intensity to the gaze. The finished piece feels calm but full of presence, making the hare a strong focal point without overwhelming the room.

The story behind the Hare

Hares have such a distinctive presence — alert, watchful and full of energy, yet completely still for a moment before disappearing in an instant. With Nutbrown Soft, I wanted to capture that balance of calm and readiness, building the coloured-pencil drawing layer by layer to bring softness to the fur, detail to the whiskers and character to that intense gaze.
